Silence
One of the
difficult aspects of our modern world is noise. It invades us from everywhere,
attacking us relentlessly. Our nervous system, thus stricken, accumulates this "noise
pollution" in the form of nervous tension and stress.
Luckily, the
human being possesses an immense capacity to adapt but, in spite of that, there are limits
that we cannot pass. If we don't give ourselves a time of rest and silence in our daily
life, sooner or later we become exhausted, and our physical, psychological and spiritual
behaviour is affected.
Nature shows us
the ideal conditions for us to live our life to the full. That's the reason why we like to
take walks in the forest, to listen to the murmur of a brook or to contemplate the
vastness of the sea. Nature is full of noises of all sorts, but they do not disturb us. On
the contrary... they help us regain the serenity and peace we all need in order to keep
our balance.
In your busy
life, you can also reserve for yourself a few moments of silence, essential to preserve
your intimate life. These moments allow you to slow down and be calm. It is by these
moments of silence that you can learn to communicate and exchange with others. Silence
will help you also to contemplate and talk with God, which is... to pray. It is also in
this silence that God speaks to your heart.
If you listen
to music at full blast, you will not be able to appreciate its true beauty, because
everything will be overwhelmed by the high level of noise: this intrusion will be too
physically brutal to touch your sensitivity. Your nervous system, thus bombarded, will not
allow your body to receive from music anything else but a reaction that will "blow
you out" or will daze you. And that's too bad.
If you want to
act like that, that doesn't mean that it is wrong. No. Wisdom consists only in being able
to keep control over your reactions at all times in order to protect yourself from
influences that are extraneous to your will. That is why it is so important not to pass
the limit of saturation of your body to noise.
"Silence
is gold", says the wisdom of a proverb.
"Do
not say anything, unless what you are going to say is more beautiful than silence",
says an Arabic proverb.
Learn to listen
in silence "the music from your heart", says Daniel Ange. You will
discover then an immense source of unsuspected richness that can transform your life.
