Freedom
"I have
enough obligations! School! Laws! I want to be free! Free to go where I want, to do what I
want!.. on an island, under the sun, in the waves, the sea..."
Do you really
think you can be free like that? This sort of freedom doesn't exist in this world. Even if
you try to run away from reality, you will always remain a prisoner of unchangeable laws
that you can neither reject nor change.
Subjected to
the cycle of days and nights, you will have to pass one third of your life... sleeping.
You will also have to eat and, therefore, work.
You will be
forced to cover yourself to find protection against the cold and the rain. You will also
have to... breathe. You will always experience your own heaviness because of the gravity
of the earth. And on top of it all, you will have to grow old and... die. Of course, you
can continue to fool yourself by your dreams of "freedom", of "doing what
you want", and "having a good time".
But this
attitude will always lead you to deception, because this type of "freedom" will
make you feel that you have less and less freedom.
True freedom
consists in a choice that, sooner or later, each of us will have to make to give
orientation to our life.
It is a choice
between two powerful forces: one that helps us develop and move upward, and another one
that belittles and destroys everything: the forces of good and evil.
Then... we
start off, and each step we take provokes the avalanches that can bring down glowing
happiness or bitter tears.
Paradoxically,
in order to be really free, you need to step back, keep yourself in the background and
submit. Yes! Submit yourself to God, your Creator, freely and through love! You need to
thank Him for everything by giving Him your life, your thoughts, your actions. You need to
become like a little child who knows he can trust his father without hesitation.
When you submit
to Him through love, you give yourself up and become vulnerable... but strong. By
submitting yourself to His laws, you become a prisoner... but free. You don't want
anything else, because you have everything in everything. Your only desire is to
give to others and to give yourself. And in this way, your life will be, in every
circumstance...
plenitude,
freedom, joy.
